    Mr. Safran has a 25 year career in public education, which followed 10+ years of other work. In the public education sector, Mr. Safran served for 9 years as a leading official of the Massachusetts Department of Education, including a period as the Deputy Commissioner of Education for the state. He spent 12 years at Match Education, 9 years as the Executive Director of the Match Schools in Boston, MA, and over three years as the leader for the tutor dissemination work at Match Education. In the 1980s, he was a staff member of two United States Senate committees on foreign policy, and an Assistant DA in Queens, NY. He has a BA from Princeton University and a JD from the George Washington University National Law Center, is certified as school superintendent in MA, and is a member of the Bar of NY and MA.

    Mr. Gutierrez completed his MBA at Boston University Questrom School of Business, specializing in Public and Nonprofit Management. He graduated from Union College with a full educational scholarship through the Posse Foundation. After graduating from Union in 2010, he served as a City Year corps member in Boston, MA, then joined Match Education in 2011 to launch the tutor dissemination unit with Alan Safran, where he focused on cultivating and establishing school and district partnerships and supporting the start-up and implementation of the program at all partner locations. At SAGA he focuses on business and financial operations, development, strategic planning and innovation. Also, he is proud board member of Summer Search Boston.

    Ms. Algarin has a J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law and a B.S. in science teaching from San Jose State University, and is also on the adjunct faculty of the US Department of Defense Institute for International Legal Studies. Prior to moving to the Chicago area, Ms. Algarin was a member of Match Corps VIII at the Match High School in 2011-2012 and was the Site Director at the International High School in Lawrence, MA in 2012-2013. Ms. Algarin served as the Executive Director of Match Corps: Chicago in 2013-2015. She has the unwavering belief that all students can learn and that relationships matter. She joined SAGA Innovations in 2015 to continue working with Chicago youth.

    Mr. Dupuis has worked in education over 20 years after earning his B.S. Biology degree from the University of Michigan. He taught math and science for 8 years in New Hampshire before joining the team at the Match School in Boston, MA. There he taught chemistry, AP Calculus, and AP Physics before transitioning to lead the grades 6-12 math and science teams as the Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment. After 7 years with Match, Chris moved to the Netherlands to teach chemistry at the American School of the Hague, where he served for 5 years. There, he earned his M.A. in Education through Augustana College. He returned to the States in 2016 to join Team SAGA full-time as the Chief Academic Officer.

    Mr. Mahoney has been involved in fundraising and development for over 10 years following a career in the venture debt business. He was the National Director of Partnerships for Year Up, the Executive Director of the Baystate Foundation and the Director of Philanthropy of the Gosnold Innovation Center. He was on the board of Empower Yourself and a member of the Capital Cabinet for the Norwell Visiting Nurse Association. He has a passion for helping connect people to opportunity and mentors several young adults in the Boston area. He also has a passion for youth sports and continues to coach an AAU basketball team. Rich attended Clark University and has a degree in Social Entrepreneurship from SNHU.

    Ms. Bowman has a BA in Math and a BA in French from Grinnell College, and a MA in Teaching. She taught English in France before moving to Chicago to teach high school math. During her 5 years of teaching in Chicago, she was chair of the math department and spent her summers writing curriculum. She now lives with her family in Pittsburgh, living the dream writing curriculum for SAGA Innovations.

    Ms. Mason, in her role as Vice President of Human Resources for SAGA Innovations, is responsible for directing all of the people functions of the organization in accordance with the policies and practices of SAGA, the ethical and social consciences of business, and the laws, regulations and administrative rulings of governmental organizations and other regulatory and advisory authorities and organizations. She is also responsible for the strategic human resource planning to provide the organization with the best people talent available and to position the organization as the employer of choice. Among other work experiences, Ms. Mason is the former National Director of Recruitment for SAGA Innovations, was the Director of Human Resources, for the third largest school district in the United States, the former Director of Admissions and Recruitment for a major medical center in Chicago, and Ms. Mason is a board member and mentor at several organizations in Chicago. She has a Masters degree in Management and a Bachelor's degree in Communications and English.

    Ms. Ehlers graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Bachelor’s of Science in Marketing with a minor in Spanish. She started her professional journey as a member of the Match Corps: Chicago as a tutoring fellow before continuing as the assistant site director at Chicago Vocational Career Academy and Harlan High School. Prior to moving to Chicago, Ms. Ehlers was living and teaching in Galicia, Spain for two years. She has a strong desire to lead youth to take advantage of their education, embrace obstacles, and travel the World beyond their communities, cities, and countries. She will continue her commitment to Chicago youth with SAGA Innovations.

    Ms. Mendoza is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, served in China 2014-2016, as a TEFL instructor at the Chongqing College of Electronic Engineering located in University Town, Chongqing, China. She graduated from the City College of New York in 2010 with a B.A. in Public Relations and Advertising. Prior to joining the Peace Corps Ms. Mendoza volunteered abroad in Cartago, Costa Rica through Cross Cultural Solutions, working with underprivileged infants and children. As well as, studied abroad through the City College of New York in Rabat, Morocco. She worked as a Project Coordinator at the CUNY IT Internship Specialists Program working with students in the Computer Science field. She is excited to share her passion of service with SAGA Fellows and students.

    Ms. Ashford graduated from Southern Illinois University in May 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management, and a specialization in Human Resource Management. After graduating, she accepted a position as the HR Intern at the YMCA of the USA corporate office. Once the internship ended, Ms. Ashford was able to land a position as the Human Resources Assistant at Oprah Winfrey’s historic Harpo Studios in Chicago, IL for 2+ years. All of her previous experience helped her decide that she was ready to venture into the non-profit world and give back to the community. SAGA has helped shaped the foundation for Ms. Ashford’s future endeavors. Being able to recruit bright, motivated Fellows has been an amazing experience for her, and she is ready to be a part of SAGA’s growth and success!

    Mr. Guadarrama graduated from Pomona College with a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics and a minor in theatre where he attended on a leadership scholarship through the Posse Foundation. Prior to his current position, he worked for SAGA as a Tutor Fellow serving the community he loves on the south side of Chicago, his hometown. Mr. Guadarrama believes strongly that every student deserves a quality education that fully prepares them for college and beyond. He knows firsthand that SAGA’s model works and is excited to continue working to grow the organization for the benefit of our nation’s students.

    Ms. DeTone is a recent graduate of Union College where she double majored in Art History and Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies. As a Summer Education Intern at the Cloisters Museum at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Ms. DeTone discovered her passion for engaging with students through experiential learning. Moving forward, Ms. DeTone’s desire to work with innovative social organizations led her to connecting with Mr. Gutierrez at SAGA Innovations. She feels SAGA’s goals and values will open up new pathways for students and is extremely excited to join the SAGA team as the first step in her professional career.

Ms. Wallace is a firm believer that access to a quality education is a right and is committed to helping urban youth realize their potential and succeed in the classroom and beyond.     Mrs. Philogene is an HR Professional who holds a B.A. in Psychology, M.S. in Gerontology Management and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Southern New Hampshire University. During her undergraduate career, she worked as a Managed Care Coordinator and a Human Resource Assistant at her family owned children's Hospice. Prior to SAGA, she spent three years with Match Education as the Human Resource Manager.

    Nicole Prahin earned a BFA in Theatre Arts from The Theatre School at DePaul University. Her interest in education began after working with students through the Alley Theatre and Redmoon Theater’s education programs. Eventually she joined Teach for America and taught middle school writing as well as reading, writing, theatre and art at a local community center in Jackson, Mississippi. Prior to SAGA, Ms. Prahin worked for Match Education as a tutor and then as a Site Director at Harper High School and Bowen High School. With SAGA, she served as a Site Director for both Harlan Community Academy and Sullivan High School. She believes it is never too late for students to advocate for themselves and drive towards their goals and passions. Nicole is excited to continue her work with youth and to join SAGA Innovations in its efforts to provide tutoring to more students in both traditional and alternative classroom settings.

    Ms. Leneghan graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelors Degree in Middle Childhood Education with a focus on Mathematics and Science. She joined SAGA after spending four years with Perspectives Leadership Academy, as an Algebra 1 and Geometry teacher as well as the State Testing Coordinator and an Assistant Dean of Discipline in Chicago, IL. Prior to working in Chicago she taught math and science at an all boys juvenile detention center in Los Angeles, California. Ms. Leneghan is excited to take her passion for math outside of the traditional classroom setting to work with students in a more individualized way.

    Ms. Kamya graduated from North Carolina State University with Bachelor’s degree in Political Science in 2013. After graduation, she moved to Chicago to begin her professional journey as a member of Match Corps: Chicago as a Tutoring Fellow. While serving as a fellow, Ms. Kamya was able to build meaningful relationships with her students and developed a passion for education policy. Following her fellowship, Ms. Kamya moved to Washington, D.C to intern at the White House under the Obama Administration. After her internship, Ms. Kamya began her graduate studies at Northwestern University and graduated with a Master’s in Public Policy and Administration in 2017. Ms. Kamya looks forward to improving educational equity for students across the nation at SAGA Innovations.

    Mr. Salim earned a Bachelor in Psychology from Loyola University. Before joining SAGA Innovations, Mr. Salim worked in an after school program with elementary school students at Centro Romero, which is located in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago. He then went on to join Americorps. During his time there, he was a part of LVI (Literacy Volunteers of Illinois) where he aided adult students in ELL, Citizenship, and GED subjects. Mr. Salim joined SAGA Innovations because he wanted to help Chicago youth build academic confidence and help to close the education gap for disadvantaged students.

    A graduate of Chicago Public Schools, Ms. Villegas has a degree in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations and in Gender Studies from the University of Chicago and a Masters’ of Science in Middle School Mathematics Education from the City College of New York. She taught high school mathematics in the Bronx for six years before returning to Chicago as a tutor. As a Site Director with SAGA, she loves getting to see both students and tutors grow.

    Mrs. Parham-Gantt graduated from Kettering University in 2012 where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. During her time at Kettering, Denise served as a Community Tutor, Mentor, and Lead Coach for Kagle Leadership Initiatives devoted to the belief that mentoring cultivates young people to be great leaders. She then attended the New Jersey Institute of Technology where she earned a Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering. In 2015, she began working with SAGA Innovations as a tutor dedicated to the mission of transforming student lives. Mrs. Parham-Gantt most recently earned her Masters Degree in Mathematics Education from DePaul University.

    Tiffany Jordan graduated from Chicago State University with a Bachelor of Science degree. Soon after she began teaching at an alternative high school on the Westside of Chicago in 2002. This experience opened the door for a love and career in education. In 2010, Tiffany completed her Masters in Education at Saint Xavier University in Chicago,IL. She has taught both middle school and high school in the areas of science and mathematics throughout the city of Chicago. Later, she became the STEM Instructional Coach at the University of Chicago High School in Woodlawn. After seeing the supports and benefits that SAGA Innovations offers students, Ms. Jordan was eager to join the team. Ms. Jordan is a firm believer that when you set expectations high for students with the needed supports, they will work to reach them.

    Lisa Kapusta earned her B.S. in Mathematics and B.S. Ed. in Education from Loyola University Chicago. Prior to her work with SAGA Innovations, Lisa worked for six years at Perspectives Charter School. She spent four years as a high school Geometry and Algebra II teacher and 11th grade team lead with Perspectives Leadership Academy. Lisa moved on to Perspectives Rodney D. Joslin campus where she worked for two years as the STEM Instructional Leader and Master Teacher and also took on the role as the Math Specialist for the Perspectives network. Lisa is passionate about providing students with a rigorous and Common Core aligned mathematics education that allows the students to become mathematical thinkers and problem solvers. She is motivated by the opportunity to provide individualized math instruction to students in an intentional and data driven way.

    A Chicago native, Ms. Moseley earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Slavic Studies from the University of Chicago. In addition to her coursework, she pursued a career in public service as an intern on the Mayor's legislative team. Her time in city governance inspired her to continue serving her community, and she became a MatchCorps tutor shortly after graduating college. After completing her MS.Ed in early childhood education and teaching for a few years, she has decided to return to SAGA and continue a budding career in education.

    Ms. Nwakanma comes to SAGA Innovations with more than 11 years of experience in the Educational field. She earned her Masters in Educational Leadership because she wants to make an impact not only on the students but also on the individuals who have the privilege to influence students’ destinies. She believes that it is never too late to achieve greatness. It's about discovering your internal gift and driving towards your goal and passion. She is excited to continue to be part of SAGA Innovations and to continue her mission to transform lives.

    Betty Anthony graduated from Creighton University with a B.S. in mathematics and completed her teacher certification at that time. She received her Masters at National Louis University in curriculum and instruction. Mrs. Anthony began her teaching career in the Minneapolis Public Schools teaching middle school students for many years. After moving to Illinois she taught in Naperville, District 204 for eight years. She then worked as a private tutor in the Naperville area. Mrs. Anthony is thrilled to be a new member of the SAGA team. She believes the small group instruction SAGA tutors provide will help Chicago students increase their academic skills and their level of confidence.

    Ms. Dziedzic has a B.S. in the Teaching of Mathematics from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She started her career as a mathematics teacher at Hubbard High School, CPS. During her fourth year of teaching, she earned her M.Ed. in Mathematics Education from the Illinois Institute of Technology. Ms. Dziedzic was the Head Girls Cross Country Coach for five years and became the Head of the Mathematics Department in the last year and a half at Hubbard. From there, she worked at Riverside Brookfield High School teaching in an alternative program for off-track juniors and seniors. Ms. Dziedzic joined SAGA, because she believes in the resiliency of at-risk students. Ms. Dziedzic finds purpose and joy in motivating and encouraging students to graduate high school so they have the opportunity to pursue their dreams.

    Percy Austin is a graduate of Chicago State University. He earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree while majoring in Mathematics. Prior to joining SAGA, Percy has contributed his unique style of tutoring to programs at different universities, city colleges and high schools in the Chicago land area. Percy even started his own academic remediation program called CoreED, where he has tirelessly worked to empower young people through education in various ways. Percy has been an academic coach, master tutor, teacher assistant, tutor trainer and academic remediation specialist. He joined SAGA Innovations because he wholeheartedly believes in the mission and vision of SAGA. Percy hopes his work with SAGA will allow him to continue to be at the forefront of education reform and to continue his work to empower students and help shape the minds of our future.

    Prior to joining SAGA Innovations, Stephen has been attending graduate school at Concordia University,
    Chicago, Located in River Forest, IL. He is working towards a Master’s degree in Clinical and Mental Health
    counseling. His future goal is to ultimately counsel inner city young adults who suffer from trauma.
    Stephen graduated from Concordia University, Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts in Theology. There he was a
    coordinator for the ministry on campus where he established and mentored other small group ministries. He
    hosted campus wide events in order to encourage student participation in spiritual gatherings. Stephen also
    had his share of public speaking as a sermonizer, both on and off of campus. His desire to counsel others
    stems from his various interactions with the diverse student population at Concordia University.
    In his free time, Stephen enjoys reading books that focus on African and African American history, spending
    time with his family, and perfecting both Creole and soul food recipes.

    Quionna Rivers is a Chicago native and attended CPS schools most of her life. She graduated from DeVry University with a B.S. in business with a concentration in accounting. She served as a SAGA Fellow in 2017 because she knew the impact the experience would have on her own life and the lives of her students. SAGA has pushed her to grow and she hopes to do the same for Fellows in her new role as a Site Director. In addition to working to full time with SAGA, she is simultaneously pursuing her MBA. She enjoys reading, Shark Week, comic books, movies, and spending time with family and friends.

    Ms. Ecker received a B.S. in Mathematics with a Concentration in Education from Colorado State University. She taught Algebra II and Geometry for two years out in rural Colorado before moving to join the Match High School where she taught Geometry, Pre-Calculus and AP Calculus over the course of 4 years. Ms. Ecker then went on to become the founding Curriculum Director for Match Tutors during their first year in Lawrence, MA. She moved again, this time to New York to be the founding Site Director for SAGA Innovations. She continued on as the NYC Director of Academics, and is now fulfilling the role of Director of Programs for New York City

    Ms. Holder graduated from Union College in 2010, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy with a minor in mathematics. After graduating, Ms. Holder decided to join Teach For America (TFA) as a corps member while simultaneously completing her teacher certificate in secondary education with a specialization in mathematics. Once fulfilling her two year commitment with TFA, she continued on at her placement site as a middle school math teacher with the Elizabeth Public Schools in New Jersey for a total of six years. She is currently working towards a joint Master of Education and Arts at Columbia University’s Teacher’s College. Lativa is passionate about closing the achievement gap, and looks forward to the opportunity to transform even more lives as she will run SAGA’s newest half-dosage site for the 2017-2018 academic year.

    Ms. Decker received her Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Chicago. During her time at the university, she worked as a teaching assistant for the Math Department and took on various roles within the department’s math education outreach programs. She also interned and volunteered for a number of non-profits, serving communities in Chicago and in her hometown of Washington, D.C. She first encountered SAGA’s approach while working for the Urban Education Institute at the University of Chicago. After witnessing the power of close tutor-student relationships in the classroom, and the statistical success of the program, she joined SAGA Innovations as a tutor and later served as a Leadership Fellow. Ms. Decker is thrilled to continue to support SAGA’s mission on the Academics Team.

    Asia Tillery graduated from The College of Saint Rose in 2014, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Childhood Education with a concentration in Math and a minor in Psychology. She is currently enrolled in NYU’s Educational Leadership, Politics, and Advocacy graduate program. She joined SAGA in 2015 during their pilot year in New York City where she served as a Tutor Fellow from May 2015-June 2016. During the 2016-2017 school year she worked as the Assistant Site Director at Dewitt Clinton High School. This year she is the Site Director at Teller Avenue Middle School campus in Bronx, NY. Born and raised in NYC she is eager to contribute to the education reform that is desperately needed in her community.

    Ms. Coviello is proud to call Vermont her home state and where she attended Bennington College. At Bennington Amanda earned a Bachelors of Liberal Arts degree with a focus in Anthropology and Education. She admired the similarities in these disciplines in that they both require the researcher/educator to enter into new situations without judgment and with the ability to understand and appreciate the unique experiences of the individuals around them. During her senior year she conducted fieldwork and produced a Thesis on the capacity of public education to provide for the nonacademic needs of students. Eventually she would like to continue to investigate the question of schools’ responsibility to meet students’ nonacademic needs and explore other issues related to Education Reform. After college she spent two years working at Blue Engine in New York where she worked as a teaching assistant in Geometry, Algebra, and 8th grade math classrooms. Through this position she became more interested in how to teach math in ways that are accessible to more students and lead to increased conceptual understanding. Ms. Coviello is excited to begin her role with SAGA and continue to challenge traditional ideas about math education.

    Mr. Hallinan graduated from CUNY Hunter College in 2015 where he received his Bachelor's Degree with honors in History and minor in Classical Studies. Mr. Hallinan tutored students in mathematics in his home borough of the Bronx since high school, concentrating in elementary mathematics and algebra. He joined the SAGA team as a Fellow in 2016 and returned in 2017 as a leadership fellow. In December of 2017, Mr. Hallinan took on the role of Assistant Site Director at DeWitt Clinton High School. Gabriel is driven by his passion to help students of all backgrounds reach their highest potential and succeed in math.
