    Mr. Safran has a 25 year career in public education, which followed 10+ years of other work. In the public education sector, Mr. Safran served for 9 years as a leading official of the Massachusetts Department of Education, including a period as the Deputy Commissioner of Education for the state. He spent 12 years at Match Education, 9 years as the Executive Director of the Match Schools in Boston, MA, and over three years as the leader for the tutor dissemination work at Match Education. In the 1980s, he was a staff member of two United States Senate committees on foreign policy, and an Assistant DA in Queens, NY. He has a BA from Princeton University and a JD from the George Washington University National Law Center, is certified as school superintendent in MA, and is a member of the Bar of NY and MA.

    Mr. Gutierrez graduated from Union College with a full educational scholarship through the Posse Foundation. After graduating from Union in 2010, he served as a City Year corps member in Boston, MA, then joined Match Education in 2011 to launch the tutor dissemination unit with Alan Safran, where he focused on cultivating and establishing school and district partnerships and supporting the start-up and implementation of the program at all partner locations. Currently, Mr. Gutierrez is pursuing his MBA in Public and Non-profit Management at Boston University Questrom School of Business and is a board member of Summer Search Boston.

    Ms. Algarin has a J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law and a B.S. in science teaching from San Jose State University, and is also on the adjunct faculty of the US Department of Defense Institute for International Legal Studies. Prior to moving to the Chicago area, Ms. Algarin was a member of Match Corps VIII at the Match High School in 2011-2012 and was the Site Director at the International High School in Lawrence, MA in 2012-2013. Ms. Algarin served as the Executive Director of Match Corps: Chicago in 2013-2015. She has the unwavering belief that all students can learn and that relationships matter. She joined SAGA Innovations in 2015 to continue working with Chicago youth.

    Mr. Dupuis has been working in education for 20 years after earning his degree in biology from the University of Michigan. After teaching high school math and science in New Hampshire for 8 years, he joined the team at the Match School in Boston, MA. There, he taught chemistry, AP Calculus, and AP Physics before transitioning to lead the grades 6-12 math and science teams as the Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment. After 7 year at Match, Chris moved to the Netherlands to teach AP and IB Chemistry at the American School of the Hague, where he is about to begin his 5th year. There, he earned his Masters of Arts in Education, which a specialty in instructional strategies.

    Mrs. Nardini is a graduate of North Park University in Chicago, where she majored in mathematics. She earned her Masters in Educational Leadership at University of Illinois at Chicago. Prior to joining SAGA, she spent 15 years with the Chicago Public Schools teaching middle and high school math. What she loves most about teaching is the lightbulb that goes off when a kid who struggles gets it! She joined SAGA innovations to continue working with students and to help others achieve “light bulb” moments.

    Mrs. Bowman has a BA in Math and a BA in French from Grinnell College and a Masters of Art in Teaching. She taught English in France before moving to Chicago to teach high school math through Teach For America. During her 5 years teaching in Chicago, she was chair of the math department and spent her summers writing curriculum. She is currently living her dream writing math curriculum for SAGA Innovations.

    Ms. Tyler received her Bachelor’s degree from Duke University. She began her career as a finance recruiter, working for Bain Capital and Fidelity Investments before that. In 2013, Ms. Tyler decided to follow her personal mission to “empower underprivileged youth to aspire towards higher education and lifelong success” by leaving finance and moving into education. Prior to SAGA, she spent two years with Match Education, first as Director of Operations and then as Director of Recruitment for Match Tutors in Chicago, IL. She then served as the National Director of Recruitment for SAGA Innovations for two years. In addition to her work with SAGA, Ms. Tyler serves on the Board of the Family Defense Center, the Associate Board of Chicago Scholars, and is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She was also a member of the Surge Institute’s third Fellowship cohort, “The Guardians” and a 2017 Visiting Fellow with Education Pioneers.

    Mrs. Hassing received her Bachelor’s degree in Education from The University of Michigan. While in Ann Arbor she discovered a passion for urban education and after graduating in 2011, she joined Teach for America as a corps member in Minneapolis, MN. During this time she designed and implemented her own curriculum, as well as mentored first year teachers through the program. After her time in the classroom, she moved to Boston to get her Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Boston University. While in Boston, Mrs. Hassing remained on with Teach for America as an interviewer and worked as a Guidance Counselor intern with the Boston Public Schools. Mrs. Hassing strongly believes in the power of building relationships in schools and is excited to be a part of the work happening at SAGA.

    Ms. Ehlers graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Bachelor’s of Science in Marketing with a minor in Spanish. She started her professional journey as a member of the Match Corps: Chicago as a tutoring fellow before continuing as the assistant site director at Chicago Vocational Career Academy and Harlan High School. Prior to moving to Chicago, Ms. Ehlers was living and teaching in Galicia, Spain for two years. She has a strong desire to lead youth to take advantage of their education, embrace obstacles, and travel the World beyond their communities, cities, and countries. She will continue her commitment to Chicago youth with SAGA Innovations.

    Ms. Mendoza is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, served in China 2014-2016, as a TEFL instructor at the Chongqing College of Electronic Engineering located in University Town, Chongqing, China. She graduated from the City College of New York in 2010 with a B.A. in Public Relations and Advertising. Prior to joining the Peace Corps Ms. Mendoza volunteered abroad in Cartago, Costa Rica through Cross Cultural Solutions, working with underprivileged infants and children. As well as, studied abroad through the City College of New York in Rabat, Morocco. She worked as a Project Coordinator at the CUNY IT Internship Specialists Program working with students in the Computer Science field. She is excited to share her passion of service with SAGA Fellows and students.

    Mr. Peterson earned his Bachelor of Arts in English/Theatre and Teaching from Bowdoin College. After receiving his secondary teaching certification, he joined Match Education as a Corps member and, later, as the Director of Program Design for the Match Tutors initiative. He also served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Jordan, where he taught fifth through eighth grade English in a rural community school. Since returning to the States, he has earned his Master of Arts in International Education Policy from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and has moved to Portland, Maine. He is thrilled to continue to work to close the U.S. achievement gap with the SAGA recruitment team.

    Ms. Epps earned her Bachelors of Science in Social Policy from Northwestern University. After graduating, she joined Teach For America in Detroit where she taught 4th grade for years. At the completion of her 2 year commitment, Kerease moved back to her hometown of Chicago, IL as a founding 12th grade History instructor at Hansberry College Prep on the South Side of Chicago. As she learned more about the education gap that many of her students faced, she participated in the Leadership for Education Equity’s Summer Policy and Advocacy workshop. She is excited to continue her work in education and serving the youth in Chicago through SAGA Innovations.

    Mr. Calloway graduated from Centre College where he earned his B.S. in Economics and Finance. While on campus he served as a Leader and Ambassador for the Posse Foundation as a Posse Scholar. Upon graduation Mr. Calloway served as an intern with the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) on the Merchandise Operations team for the 2016 PGA Championship and Ryder Cup. As a graduate of the Match High School in Boston Mr. Calloway was very familiar with the goals of the SAGA tutoring model and joined the team to make an impact in the lives of young students and help further the SAGA mission.

    Ms. Ashford graduated from Southern Illinois University in May 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management, and a specialization in Human Resource Management. After graduating, she accepted a position as the HR Intern at the YMCA of the USA corporate office. Once the internship ended, Ms. Ashford was able to land a position as the Human Resources Assistant at Oprah Winfrey’s historic Harpo Studios in Chicago, IL for 2+ years. All of her previous experience helped her decide that she was ready to venture into the non-profit world and give back to the community. SAGA has helped shaped the foundation for Ms. Ashford’s future endeavors. Being able to recruit bright, motivated Fellows has been an amazing experience for her, and she is ready to be a part of SAGA’s growth and success!

    Mr. Guadarrama graduated from Pomona College with a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics and a minor in theatre where he attended on a leadership scholarship through the Posse Foundation. Prior to his current position, he worked for SAGA as a Tutor Fellow serving the community he loves on the south side of Chicago, his hometown. Mr. Guadarrama believes strongly that every student deserves a quality education that fully prepares them for college and beyond. He knows firsthand that SAGA’s model works and is excited to continue working to grow the organization for the benefit of our nation’s students.

    Ms. DeTone is a recent graduate of Union College where she double majored in Art History and Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies. As a Summer Education Intern at the Cloisters Museum at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Ms. DeTone discovered her passion for engaging with students through experiential learning. Moving forward, Ms. DeTone’s desire to work with innovative social organizations led her to connecting with Mr. Gutierrez at SAGA Innovations. She feels SAGA’s goals and values will open up new pathways for students and is extremely excited to join the SAGA team as the first step in her professional career.

    Mr. Martinez is a recent graduate from the University of Massachusetts Boston where he earned his B.A. in Management with a concentration in finance. He joined SAGA innovations because He wanted to continue his growth in education while being apart of something that enhances the state of education.

    Ms. Awolola graduated with honors from Illinois Institute of Technology in 2004, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics. After completing her Bachelor’s degree she returned to school to get a Master’s in Education from National Louis in 2008. She joined SAGA after spending two years in activations and sales with Pearson Learning. In addition, she spent several years as a lead teacher, helping to guide the curriculum and pacing of the mathematics department. She put her vast mathematical knowledge to use by providing intensive math tutoring to scholars and parents.

    Ms. Trosino studied English Literature and Education Policy at Boston University. While working on her Undergraduate degree at BU, she began tutoring at Match High School. Ms. Trosino then joined Match full time as a member of Match Corps VIII and went on to work as the Special Education Teacher and Special Education Coordinator. During the 2014-2015 school year, Ms. Trosino joined Match Tutors to run a pilot program as the Site Director at Stamford High School in Stamford, CT. She is excited to join SAGA Innovations to further in transforming the lives of students.

    Mrs. Philogene is an HR Professional who holds a B.A. in Psychology, M.S. in Gerontology Management and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Southern New Hampshire University. During her undergraduate career, she worked as a Managed Care Coordinator and a Human Resource Assistant at her family owned children's Hospice. Prior to SAGA, she spent three years with Match Education as the Human Resource Manager.

    Ms. Hurst received a BA in International Relations from Brigham Young University in 2016 and has spent the last year working as a SAGA Tutoring Fellow in New York City. Throughout her undergraduate career she worked extensively with war-affected communities in Northern Uganda and eventually became one of the co-founders of AGOGO Solar; an initiative to provide sustainable and affordable solar power to families in Uganda. She has held support staff positions in both the private and public sectors, including with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in the Netherlands. As someone passionate about social welfare, she is excited for the opportunity to continue to work with SAGA in this new capacity as HR Assistant.

    Ms. Leneghan graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelors Degree in Middle Childhood Education with a focus on Mathematics and Science. She joined SAGA after spending four years with Perspectives Leadership Academy, as an Algebra 1 and Geometry teacher as well as the State Testing Coordinator and an Assistant Dean of Discipline in Chicago, IL. Prior to working in Chicago she taught math and science at an all boys juvenile detention center in Los Angeles, California. Ms. Leneghan is excited to take her passion for math outside of the traditional classroom setting to work with students in a more individualized way.

    Nicole Prahin earned a BFA in Theatre Arts from The Theatre School at DePaul University. Her interest in education began after working with students through the Alley Theatre and Redmoon Theater’s education programs. Eventually she joined Teach for America and taught middle school writing as well as reading, writing, theatre and art at a local community center in Jackson, Mississippi. Prior to SAGA, Ms. Prahin worked for Match Education as a tutor and then Site Director at Harper High School and Bowen High School. She believes it is never too late for students to advocate for themselves and drive towards their goals and passions. She is excited to continue her work with youth in Chicago and to join SAGA Innovations in its efforts to provide tutoring to more students in both traditional and alternative classroom settings.

    Betty Anthony graduated from Creighton University with a B.S. in mathematics and completed her teacher certification at that time. She received her Masters at National Louis University in curriculum and instruction. Mrs. Anthony began her teaching career in the Minneapolis Public Schools teaching middle school students for many years. After moving to Illinois she taught in Naperville, District 204 for eight years. She then worked as a private tutor in the Naperville area. Mrs. Anthony is thrilled to be a new member of the SAGA team. She believes the small group instruction SAGA tutors provide will help Chicago students increase their academic skills and their level of confidence.

    Devin Davis graduated from Oberlin College in 2013 where he earned his B.A. in Geology & Environmental Studies. After graduating his interest in education and working with youth led him to City Year Chicago where he served as a corp member from 2013-2014. Afterwards, he joined the Match where he served at a tutor in Chicago. In 2014, he served on the first SAGA team at Bogan Computer Technical High School.

    Mr. St. Clair has a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Morehouse College and a Master of Science in Mathematics Education, Leadership from Illinois Institute of Technology. Mr. St.Clair relocated to Chicago after he finished his Bachelor’s to work at Young Women’s Leadership Charters School, where he taught four levels of mathematics. After YWLCS, Mr. St.Clair worked with Betty Shabazz international charter school as a math assistant, then on to do school reform preventing school from closing in urban neighborhoods. Prior to joining SAGA Innovations, Mr. St. Clair was a math interventionist at Perspective Charter School of Technology.

    Ms. Dziedzic has a B.S. in the Teaching of Mathematics from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She started her career as a mathematics teacher at Hubbard High School, CPS. During her fourth year of teaching, she earned her M.Ed. in Mathematics Education from the Illinois Institute of Technology. Ms. Dziedzic was the Head Girls Cross Country Coach for five years and became the Head of the Mathematics Department in the last year and a half at Hubbard. From there, she worked at Riverside Brookfield High School teaching in an alternative program for off-track juniors and seniors. Ms. Dziedzic joined SAGA, because she believes in the resiliency of at-risk students. Ms. Dziedzic finds purpose and joy in motivating and encouraging students to graduate high school so they have the opportunity to pursue their dreams.

    Stephen O’Donnell graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Environmental and Ecological Engineering. Prior to joining the education world, Stephen worked as a research engineer. He has since been a Tutor with Match Education and a Leadership Fellow with SAGA Innovations. He will be returning to Little Village Lawndale High School for his third year, now as a Site Director.

    Percy Austin is a graduate of Chicago State University. He earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree while majoring in Mathematics. Prior to joining SAGA, Percy has contributed his unique style of tutoring to programs at different universities, city colleges and high schools in the Chicago land area. Percy even started his own academic remediation program called CoreED, where he has tirelessly worked to empower young people through education in various ways. Percy has been an academic coach, master tutor, teacher assistant, tutor trainer and academic remediation specialist. He joined SAGA Innovations because he wholeheartedly believes in the mission and vision of SAGA. Percy hopes his work with SAGA will allow him to continue to be at the forefront of education reform and to continue his work to empower students and help shape the minds of our future.

    Ms. Ecker has a B.S. in Mathematics with a Concentration in Education from Colorado State University. She taught Algebra II and Geometry for two years out in rural Colorado before moving to join the Match High School where she taught Geometry, Pre-Calculus and AP Calculus over the course of 4 years. Ms. Ecker was the Curriculum Director for Match Tutors during their first year out in Lawrence, MA. This last semester she moved again, this time to New York to be a Site Director for SAGA Innovations. She is continuing on with SAGA Innovations as a Site Director and as the Director of Academics for New York.

    Ms. Holder graduated from Union College in 2010, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy with a minor in mathematics. After graduating, Ms. Holder decided to join Teach For America (TFA) as a corps member while simultaneously completing her teaching certificate in secondary education with a specialization in mathematics. Once fulfilling her two year commitment with TFA, she continued on at her placement site as a middle school math teacher with the Elizabeth Public Schools in New Jersey for a total of six years. She is currently working towards a joint Masters of Education and Arts at Columbia University. Lativa is excited about her new role with SAGA as she intends to continuously work to close the achievement gap.

    Asia Tillery graduated from The College of Saint Rose in 2014, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Childhood Education with a concentration in Math and a minor in Psychology. She is currently enrolled in NYU’s Educational Leadership, Politics, and Advocacy graduate program. She joined SAGA in 2015 during their pilot year in New York City where she served as a Tutor Fellow from May 2015-June 2016 . This year she is the Assistant Site Director at Dewitt Clinton High School in Bronx, NY. Born and raised in NYC she is eager to contribute to the education reform that is desperately needed in her community.

    Jessica is currently serving as an Assistant Site Director for SAGA Innovations in New York City. She graduated from Fort Valley State University with a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics. After college, Jessica joined Georgia Teaching Fellows. She completed the program which trains teachers to work in schools serving low income communities. After completing the program, Jessica became a middle school mathematics teacher for Fulton County Schools in Fairburn, GA. It was here that she learned the importance of teaching fundamental mathematics education to young students. After two years in middle grades education, Jessica transitioned into the high school classroom, teaching Advanced Algebra, PreCalculus, and Advanced Mathematical Decision Making. During her tenure as a teacher, Jessica has served as department chair, grade level chair, and math coordinator for the Renaissance Leadership Academy. As math coordinator, Jessica developed the curriculum for high achieving students. Jessica continues to share her love of teaching and passion for mathematics through her role.
